So often we crowd out of leisure time to do the work so that we have no persistent tasks and projects that penetrate our brain while we are on vacation.

But the certainty that things continued to happen while I was completely separated was on a different level.

And when I speak of penetrating thoughts, I did something else different this time.

I don’t know anything about you, but many of my trips served as an opportunity to press the break and take a step back to think about work and life. I often get away with new ideas, insights and lessons, some of which I have shared with you here before.

And while I had some of the greatest way of thinking about my life (ask me about Peru), I realized that I brought a lot of expectations into my trips over time.

Expectations of what I wanted to get out of experience. Expectations of how I wanted to feel when I came back. Expectations of the clarity of the direction I hoped to win.

And in these expectations I have often forgotten to just be at the moment and enjoy the journey for what I was hoping for.

This time I let go of all of this and just experienced every moment how it came.

So did I get away with a huge revelation or an idea for a brand new business strategy? Maybe not.

But I got into work and life more smoothly than any trip that I can remember.

And in a way, it is similar to the form of sustainable scalability that I talk about. It’s not always about huge swing-for-the fences ideas or constant starts and stops. It is about clever and consistent progress, still one foot in front of the other and enjoys the trip on the way.

So if you have summer trips, I wish you the certainty that things will run without you. And I hope you can leave your expectations behind and enjoy every moment exactly as it is.
