The sensitization program for the Spices board host -sensitization to organic production

In cooperation with Apeda, the Spices Board carried out a one -day sensitization program for the 8th edition of the National Program for Organic Production (NPOP) for spices at Kochi. The event aimed at sharpening awareness of updated NPOP standards for sustainable spice production, in addition to promoting the export of organic spices and spice products.

The program was inaugurated P. Hemalatha, secretary of the Spice Board. Saswati Bose, General Manager, Apeda, BN JHA, Director (Marketing), Spices Board; Dharmendra Das, Director (Development), Spices Board and Joji Mathew, Director (RETD), Spices Board and Lead Auditor, addressed the participants.

Hemalatha said: “Sustainable agriculture aims to ensure safe and nutritious foods at affordable costs, profitability of farmers and environmental protection. In this context, the 8th edition of NPOP offers essential guidelines for organic spice production in harmony with nature.

The technical sessions contained revealing presentations on organic certification, updated NPOP standards, market trends and practical challenges. Saswati Bose was drawn up in the provisions of the 8th edition for sustainable spice production.

Thejas Thayyil, Managing Director, Biowin -Agro -Forschung, spoke about the scope and global demand for organic spices.
