Amazon Retreats off the plan to show the costs for Trump tariffs after the presidential pressure

Amazon has declined from the reported plans to show the costs for President Trump’s tariffs for Chinese goods at the cash register after a direct call from Trump to the founder Jeff Bezos and a sharp reproduction was called out of the white house.

According to a report by Punchbowl News, Amazon had considered how much price a product was due to Trump’s new 145 percent tariffs for Chinese imports. The additional costs were allegedly appearing on the site in addition to the total price – effectively the consumer burden on the current trade war.

But this idea quickly disappeared after the White House described it as an “enemy and political act”. Press spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said at a briefing: “Why didn’t Amazon do this when the bidges administration increased inflation at the highest level for 40 years?”

According to CNN, President Trump, who made his first 100 days in office, reported on the idea and called Bezos directly. Shortly afterwards Amazon turned the course.

“He solved the problem very quickly and did the right thing,” said Trump to report and alleviated his tone. “He is a good guy.”

Tim Doyle, spokesman for Amazon, told the Washington Post property of Bezos -that the proposal “was never a consideration for the main -amazon website” and had only been examined for the discount platform of the Larke company. “This proposal was never approved and did not happen,” he added.

Amazon Shares, who had sunk in the day, recovered to $ 187.80 in New York after the company had contested the plans.

The series underlines the tense political climate around Trump’s aggressive trade policy, which includes 145 percent for Chinese imports and triggered 125 percent taxes of Beijing. While the Trump government insists that China will bear the main burden of economic pain, critics argue that the US consumers will ultimately be based on the bill.

When asked whether Amazon’s reported movement emphasized that the tariffs injured Americans more than China, Leavitt replied: “This is another reason why Americans should buy Americans.”

Finance Minister Scott Bessent repeated the government’s line: “The tariffs are not sustainable for China. The responsibility is with Beijing to withdraw.”

Amazon, who has dependent on Chinese sellers for more than half of its third -party market, is already confronted with cost pressure and seller uncertainty. According to reports, many providers from the first -class day of Amazon in July, citing the increasing import costs.

In the meantime, other e-commerce giants are more transparent about the effects of tariffs. Chinese platforms Shein and Temu have added both large surcharges to the cash register, with Temu now showing an “import fee” of 145 percent per article.

Although Amazon created a documentary about Melania Trump in a magic offensive, he stays in the crosshair of the White House.

“This is certainly an enemy and political action by Amazon,” concluded Leavitt and rejected the proposal that relationships with Bezos were thawed.
